The purpose of this study was to evaluate the herbicide savings and return on investment from targeted spray technologies, See & Spray™ Premium and SmartScript™ Weeds, compared to a broadcast application for weed control in soybeans.

The Story: The "Why" Beck's Tested This With herbicide costs on the rise, farmers are constantly looking for ways to maximize their spray dollars without sacrificing weed control. Beck's tested two targeted spray technologies, See & Spray™ Premium and SmartScript™ Weeds, to see if they could deliver similar weed control to broadcast applications while saving on inputs. This is a new area of testing for them in 2025. Key Observations Similar Yields, Less
Sprayed: Both SmartScript™ and See & Spray™ technologies achieved comparable yields to broadcast applications while only spraying 90-91% of the field. See & Spray™ Saved
Herbicide: See & Spray™ Premium delivered an average of $2.21/acre in herbicide savings compared to traditional broadcast applications. SmartScript™ Had
Highest ROI: While costing slightly more per acre on herbicide compared to broadcast (-$1.56/A), SmartScript™ Weeds delivered the highest overall return on investment, at $4.64/acre (yield + herbicide).
Minor Differences Between Systems: Across Beck's study, both targeted spray systems performed very similarly, with only minor differences in overall yield and financial returns. 2025 Results FAQs "Does the tech fee eat up all the savings?" Not in Beck's 2025 study. While both systems have a tech fee ($4.00/acre for SmartScript™ and $5.00/acre for See & Spray™ for non-sprayed acres), both still delivered a positive Return on Investment (ROI) compared to broadcast spraying. SmartScript™ came in at +$4.64/acre ROI, and See & Spray™ at +$3.24/acre ROI, even with the fees factored in. "If I'm only spraying 90% of the field, does it miss weeds?" Not according to Beck's yield data. Both SmartScript™ and See & Spray™ delivered comparable yields to broadcast applications. This suggests the systems were effective at targeting and controlling weeds in the sprayed areas, preventing yield loss from missed weeds, even in fields with moderate to heavy weed pressure. "How do these systems handle varying weed pressure across fields?" Beck's study included fields with moderate to heavy weed pressure. The beauty of these targeted spray systems is their ability to adapt. For example, in Field 2, See & Spray™ achieved herbicide savings of $2.65/acre and an impressive ROI of $9.88/acre. SmartScript™ in the same field also showed strong performance with an ROI of $12.14/acre. This shows they can identify and spray only where needed, even when weeds are prevalent, leading to significant savings and returns in specific field conditions.
