Clearing Overgrown Fence Lines and Brush
Fence lines get away from you fast. Multiflora rose, honeysuckle, locust saplings and blackberry take a row back in two seasons. This work is hard on equipment because the ground is uneven and what is hiding in the grass is usually metal. The right pairing matters more than horsepower.
Match the cutter to the tractor
A cutter that outmatches your tractor is the most common mistake we see on this job. On a 1- or 2-Series, a lighter deck keeps you stable on sidehills and ditch banks. Step up to a 3-Series and you can carry a heavy-duty cutter through locust and thorn without stalling out. We will look at your fence lines with you and size it from there, not from a chart.
The loader earns its keep
Cutting is only half of a fence line. Somebody has to move the brush piles, pull rotten posts, backfill washouts and haul stone to the gate. A loader on the front of the same tractor does all of it, and it is the attachment our Customers use most once the first pass is done. If the tractor, loader and cutter together are a stretch, ask about our Patriot Package and put them on one monthly payment.
Keeping it clear after the first pass
Once the heavy brush is down, the job changes. You are managing regrowth, not clearing, and that is a yearly pass with a lighter cutter or a tough-cut deck along the mowable side of the line. Staying ahead of it means you never buy the hard way back in. Big acreage with long, straight runs is where a wide pull-type or semi-mount cutter pays off in fewer laps.

What size tractor do I need for a 5-foot rotary cutter?
In our experience a 2-Series handles a 5-foot cutter comfortably on most rolling ground, and a 3-Series is the better answer if you are cutting heavy brush or working hillsides. Weight and rear axle capacity matter as much as engine horsepower here. Tell us what your fence lines look like and we will size it honestly.
Will hidden wire and posts wreck my cutter?
It is the main thing that shortens a cutter's life on this job, which is why we push heavy-duty models for first-pass clearing. Walk the line once before you cut and pull what you can see. We stock the parts and our technicians work on these cutters, so a blade or driveline repair does not stop your season.
How often should fence lines be cut?
Once a year keeps a cleared line clear, and about half of our Customers do a second pass late in the season on the worst stretches. If a line has gone three or four years, plan on a heavy first cut and then a much easier yearly pass after that.
Can I try a tractor and cutter on my own property first?
Yes. We will arrange a demo on your place so you can see how the pairing handles your actual ground and brush. That is the only way to know if a cutter is sized right for your fence lines.
