Size the mower to your acres
A straight disc mower is the simplest way to get hay on the ground. Smaller widths suit rolling ground, waterways and odd corners where a wide machine fights you. Wider cuts pay off on open, square fields where you are trying to beat weather. We would rather ask how many acres you cut in a day, and what the ground looks like, before we point at a width.
Conditioning shortens dry-down
If you are baling dry hay, the conditioner matters as much as the cutterbar. Crimping or crushing the stem lets moisture leave evenly so the windrow dries on schedule instead of on hope. The Pro series mower conditioners give you cutting and conditioning in one pass, with windrow width you can set for your rake and baler. Alfalfa and mixed stands respond differently, and we will talk through both.
Tractor power behind the cutterbar
A mower that outruns the tractor is a slow day and a hard hitch. Wider disc platforms want steady PTO horsepower, weight and hydraulic capacity, especially on hills. Many growers we serve already have a utility tractor doing loader work, and it will pull a mid-width mower fine. Larger acreage usually calls for a row crop tractor so cutting does not tie up the machine you need elsewhere.

Questions we get on this job
Do I need a disc mower or a mower conditioner?
If you are chopping or wrapping at higher moisture, a straight disc mower is often enough. If you are making dry hay and fighting the forecast, conditioning is what gets the windrow ready in time. We will look at your crop mix and your baling plan before recommending one.
How much tractor do I need to run one of these?
It depends on mower width, ground slope and whether the machine is mounted or pull type. Wider platforms want more PTO horsepower and more weight up front. Tell us what tractor you have now and we will tell you honestly whether it is the right match.
Can I see one work on my own ground?
Yes. We will arrange a demo on your farm so you can watch the cut quality and windrow in your own stand, not in a lot. That is usually what settles the question of width.
Do you support these machines after the sale?
