Is the John Deere S240 - 48 Tractor right for you?

Most Customers looking at this class of mower own a half-acre to two-acre yard and want something that cuts cleanly, holds up over several seasons, and does not turn into a maintenance headache. The Cub Cadet XT2 SLX50 will catch your eye on the spec sheet because it shows 24 horsepower against the S240's 21.5, and its 50-inch deck is two inches wider. Those are real numbers and worth knowing. What the spec sheet does not tell you is how that power gets used once the blade engages and the terrain gets uneven.

The S240 runs the same Tuff Torq K46 hydrostatic transaxle as the XT2, so the drivetrain is comparable, but the S240 pairs it with side-by-side foot pedals that most Customers find far more intuitive for speed and direction control than a single foot pedal. The no-tools oil drain with a replaceable filter is a small thing until you are actually doing the service yourself, and then it matters quite a bit. The larger 20x10-8 rear tires also give you a wider footprint for stability on slopes. The S240's Accel Deep deck is engineered specifically for clean discharge and consistent cut quality, and that design work shows in the finished lawn.
