A straight, spec-by-spec look for gator buyers across Ohio and Indiana. The numbers are only half the decision.

Is the John Deere Gator RSX860M right for you?

The Customer who walks in asking about the RSX860M is usually someone who works their property hard and plays on it too. They want a machine that can haul a load of fence posts in the morning and still feel planted and controlled on rough terrain in the afternoon. The Teryx is a solid unit, and we will be honest with you: it does carry a slight edge on rated box capacity at 600 lb versus 500 lb on the Gator. But look at everything else. The RSX860M puts out 62 hp with a published number to back it up, while Kawasaki does not advertise a horsepower figure at all. The Gator also pulls 1,500 lb versus the Teryx's 1,300 lb, and the cargo box itself is physically larger, giving you more room to stack awkward loads even if the weight rating is a touch lower.

On the trail side, the RSX860M runs Fox shocks front and rear with 9 inches of travel all around, paired with an anti-roll bar at both ends. The Teryx comes in at 8 inches front and 8.3 rear, which you will feel on rough ground. That extra travel and the Fox hardware make a real difference when you are covering uneven terrain at speed.
