Spec Comparison

John Deere Gator GS vs. KUBOTA RTV500

A straight, spec-by-spec look for gator buyers across Ohio and Indiana. The numbers are only half the decision.

Is the John Deere Gator GS right for you?

The Customer who's looking at the Gator GS is usually someone who needs a reliable workhorse around the property or farm, not a trail machine. They're hauling feed, moving tools, or towing a small implement, and they want something that won't let them down mid-task. That's exactly where the Gator GS pulls ahead. The cargo box carries up to 800 lb compared to the RTV500's 441 lb, and the towing capacity is 1,500 lb versus 1,102 lb on the Kubota. For most working situations, that difference is the whole ballgame.

The RTV500 does offer dash-lever four-wheel drive, which the Gator GS doesn't have, so if a Customer is primarily navigating steep or muddy terrain, that's worth a conversation. But for the majority of buyers doing property work on reasonably flat ground, the Gator's fully enclosed oil-bath final drive and automotive-style front suspension deliver a smooth, durable ride that holds up season after season. The larger fuel capacity is identical at 5.2 gallons, so no advantage there for either side.
