John Deere 2038R vs. John Deere 2025R

A straight, spec-by-spec look for cut buyers across Ohio and Indiana. The numbers are only half the decision.

John Deere 2038R Compact Tractor (1)

Is the John Deere 2038R right for you?

The Customer weighing the 2038R against the 2025R is usually someone who started with a smaller compact tractor and quickly found themselves wanting more. Maybe they picked up a few extra acres, added a loader and a finish mower, or started running a box blade and a tiller in the same season. The 2025R is a genuinely capable machine for light property work, but once you start stacking implements and asking the tractor to do real work day after day, the gaps in the spec sheet start to matter. The 2038R puts out 36.7 gross horsepower against the 2025R's 23.9, and that difference shows up immediately at the PTO: 30.4 hp versus 17.2 hp. If you are running a mid-size finish mower or a heavier tiller in tough ground, that extra PTO power is not a luxury.

The hydraulics tell the same story. The 2038R delivers 20.2 L/min to your implements compared to 13.4 L/min on the 2025R, and the hitch is a full Category 1 rather than a limited Category 1, which opens up a wider range of three-point implements without adapter headaches. Lift capacity jumps from 915 lb to 1,356 lb at 24 inches behind the link arms, so you are not white-knuckling it every time you pick up a loaded bucket or a heavy rear attachment. The longer 67.8-inch wheelbase also adds stability on slopes and uneven terrain that a smaller frame simply cannot match.

The 2025R is the right tractor for a lot of Customers, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case for your situation. But if your workload is growing or you want a machine you will not outgrow in two seasons, the 2038R is built for that. Stop in and talk with our team at any of our stores across Indiana and Ohio, and we can walk through your specific property and implement list to make sure you are buying the right tractor once instead of twice.
